Monsoon Kills 136 in Pakistan, Including 14 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Pakistan’s monsoon season has claimed 136 lives, with 10 additional deaths reported in the past 24 hours across Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The fatalities were caused by drowning, house collapses, and a falling boulder, as per the NDMA’s latest report. Over 418 people have been injured since the monsoon season began on June 26.
In KP, a blast killed 14 people and injured dozens, marking another tragic incident amid ongoing security challenges. The attack, which occurred in the northern border province, highlights the persistent threat of insurgency linked to groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Meanwhile, a suicide attack during a protest in KP left 13 dead, underscoring the volatile security situation in the region.
The NDMA has called for urgent action to address the rising death toll, emphasizing the need for improved disaster response. However, the country also faces a growing threat from terrorism, with reports of coordinated attacks exposing gaps in law enforcement training. As the monsoon continues, the dual crisis of natural disasters and insurgency poses a significant challenge to Pakistan’s stability.
