President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) probe into nine contracts linked to the establishment of the municipal police service in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, as well as a voluntary medical male circumcision tender by the Gauteng Department of Health. The investigation follows allegations of maladministration, irregular expenditure, and possible unlawful conduct. The SIU will examine the contracts to determine if any irregularities or misconduct occurred during the procurement process. The probe is part of ongoing efforts to address corruption and governance issues within local government. The Gauteng Health tender was part of a national initiative to increase access to HIV prevention services. The SIU’s findings are expected to provide clarity on the allegations and potentially lead to disciplinary actions. (iol.co.za)
