Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) head, Andrea Johnson, has told the Madlanga Commission that her resignation has left her unable to assist in obtaining outstanding documents sought by the inquiry. Johnson, whose resignation was accepted by President Cyril Ramaphosa, urged commissioners to approach the official now leading the directorate for further assistance. The commission is examining allegations of corruption and fraud involving senior officials, including Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo.
Johnson repeatedly referred questions about the evidence against Khumalo to senior investigator Dylan Perumal, stating she could not explain how the allegations were incorporated into the directorate's investigation. This has raised concerns about transparency and accountability in the probe. Opposition leader Mzwanele Manyi criticized Ramaphosa’s swift acceptance of Johnson’s resignation, arguing she should not be allowed to avoid accountability.
The Madlanga Commission continues its investigation into corruption within state institutions, with Johnson’s case highlighting ongoing scrutiny of former officials. Despite her resignation, the probe into her actions remains active, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing corruption.
