Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after testing positive for cocaine. The 31-year-old, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, failed a doping test during an ATP event in Mallorca, Spain, on June 22.
The ITIA confirmed that a WADA-accredited laboratory detected benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, in Kyrgios’ sample. The agency stated that the positive result was confirmed on July 17, 2026. Kyrgios admitted to making a “huge mistake” but did not offer excuses, acknowledging struggles with the twilight of his career.
Multiple media outlets reported the suspension, with some noting that Kyrgios had previously faced controversy over his behavior and conduct on the court. The provisional suspension means he is barred from competing until the case is resolved. The ITIA will now determine whether to impose a longer ban.
Kyrgios, known for his fiery personality, has been a polarizing figure in tennis. His admission of a “huge mistake” has drawn mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. The case highlights ongoing concerns about substance use in professional sports.
