Russia has continued its bombardment of Kyiv for a sixth consecutive day, killing at least 12 people, according to local reports. The attacks, which include drone and ballistic missile strikes, have targeted residential areas and railway infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, confirmed the casualties in a statement, noting that an Indian citizen was among the victims.
The escalation has drawn international attention, with Germany accusing Russia of involvement in a drone attack in Leipzig. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt cited evidence linking the attack to Russia’s hybrid warfare tactics in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the EU is facing challenges in sustaining its financial support for Ukraine, as a €23 billion deficit in the Ministry of Defence raises concerns over the long-term viability of the €90 billion loan.
At an informal summit in Ireland, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called for increased support for Ukraine’s air defenses, highlighting July and August as the deadliest months of the war. Ireland has pledged €10 million for combat training, showing continued solidarity with Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
The situation remains volatile, with both sides intensifying military actions and diplomatic pressure. As the war enters its second year, the humanitarian and economic toll continues to mount, prompting calls for greater international intervention.
