Rescue teams in Nepal have successfully freed two workers from a hydropower tunnel nearly a week after catastrophic floods swept through the Himalayas. The workers, trapped in the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower station, were pulled to safety on Friday. This marks the second successful rescue operation in the region, following the earlier retrieval of a third worker.
The floods, which hit the Nepal-China border area, caused widespread destruction and claimed over 1,300 lives. More than 5,600 people remain missing. The rescue efforts have continued despite the challenging terrain and ongoing weather conditions.
Authorities have confirmed that the two rescued workers are in stable condition. Ongoing searches are underway for other missing individuals. The situation remains critical, with rescue teams working in difficult conditions to locate and save those still unaccounted for.
The hydropower project, part of Nepal’s efforts to boost energy production, has been severely impacted by the disaster. The incident highlights the risks faced by workers in remote and vulnerable regions.
