Amanda Roberts and her 10-year-old son River fled the Bald Range fire in Faulder, B.C. Before the blaze destroyed their community. Among the belongings they had to leave behind were several pets, including a tarantula named Velky Pavouk and a salamander called Mongo. The animals were kept in two terrariums that remained behind in the home.
The family escaped the fire, which ultimately wiped out Faulder, a small community in British Columbia. The pets were not rescued during the evacuation. Local authorities have not confirmed whether the animals survived the fire or if they were later found.
Neighbors and volunteers have expressed concern for the animals, as they were left in an area that was completely consumed by the flames. Some have suggested that the pets may have been lost in the disaster.
The incident highlights the personal impact of wildfires on households, particularly those with unusual or rare pets. The names of the animals suggest a close bond between the family and their companions.
