The Nigerian government has signed a ₦729 billion bond agreement to address legacy debts owed to electricity generation companies. The deal, part of the ₦4 trillion Power Sector Debt Reduction Programme, aims to improve financial stability in the country’s energy sector. The bond, valued at ₦728.979 billion, includes ₦402 billion in cash bonds raised domestically. The agreement is expected to enhance liquidity and support the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure. The move comes amid ongoing efforts to modernize the energy sector and attract private investment.
