GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi has challenged Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to explain the alleged $1.7 billion loss linked to Ghana’s domestic gold-buying programme. Gyamfi accused Afenyo-Markin of making unfounded claims without evidence, urging the opposition leader to summon him to Parliament for clarification.
Afenyo-Markin, meanwhile, criticized GoldBod for responding to questions about the reported GHC22 billion loss with insults rather than answers. The Minority Caucus accused the Ghana Gold Board CEO of failing to adequately address concerns raised by lawmakers.
The dispute highlights growing tensions between the ruling party and opposition over financial accountability. Gyamfi defended GoldBod’s actions, stating the loss figures were misinterpreted. Afenyo-Markin called for transparency, emphasizing that Ghanaians deserve clear explanations.
Both sides remain at an impasse, with no immediate resolution in sight. The situation underscores the political stakes surrounding economic governance in Ghana.
