Cork city council is preparing to launch a new Irish language action plan, which could strengthen its bid to become a hub for Irish language services. The plan aims to support the use and promotion of the Irish language within the city, aligning with broader efforts to preserve and enhance linguistic heritage.
Meanwhile, Culture Night, an annual event celebrating Irish culture, is expanding its reach beyond traditional Gaeltacht areas. In Donegal, two events are set to take place, including a night of music, poetry, and storytelling in the local Irish dialect. The event is supported by An tOireachtas, which is helping language groups host activities in non-Gaeltacht regions.
These initiatives highlight growing efforts to promote the Irish language across different parts of the country. While Cork focuses on institutional support through a city-wide action plan, Donegal’s events emphasize community engagement and cultural expression. Both approaches reflect a broader commitment to sustaining the Irish language in modern society.
The expansion of Culture Night and the planned action plan signal a renewed interest in language preservation, though challenges remain in ensuring long-term success.
