The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has rejected former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allegations that the agency is covering up high-profile murder cases. In a statement released on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the DCI emphasized that its investigations are conducted in accordance with the law and not influenced by political considerations. The agency called Gachagua’s claims “baseless” and urged him to provide evidence to support his accusations.
Gachagua had previously accused the DCI of failing to properly investigate several high-profile murders. In response, the DCI highlighted ongoing cases it claims it has actively pursued. Meanwhile, Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia revealed that he secretly contacted Gachagua and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka during his arrest at Royal Media Services. Kaguchia described how he managed to make the calls without detection, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
