INTERPOL has reported a significant increase in cryptocurrency scams and cyber frauds across several African countries, with suspected notifications rising by nearly 3,000% in some regions. The surge in fraudulent activities has raised concerns among law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts.

According to ESET’s Allan Juma, the rise in cryptocurrency scams is linked to the growing popularity of digital currencies and the increasing number of online transactions. This trend has made individuals more vulnerable to scams, particularly those targeting financial assets.

The increase in cyber frauds has prompted authorities to intensify efforts to combat these crimes. However, the complexity of cryptocurrency transactions and the cross-border nature of these scams pose challenges for investigators.

Law enforcement agencies are working closely with international partners to track down perpetrators and improve cybersecurity measures. (techtrendske.co.ke)
