Habil Waswani has been appointed as the acting chief executive officer of Kenya Airways, effective September 15, 2026. The airline’s board announced the move following the resignation of George Kamal, who served as acting CEO for four years. Kamal will remain with the company for a 30-day transition period before leaving on September 30.
Waswani, a lawyer with over two decades of experience in corporate governance and regulatory compliance, will take on the role of Acting Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. His appointment comes at a critical time for the national carrier, which has been working to stabilize its operations and improve service quality.
The transition was confirmed by Kenya Airways Chairman Kiprono Kittony, who acknowledged Kamal’s contributions in a memo to staff dated September 1, 2026. Waswani’s background in law and corporate leadership is expected to provide stability and direction as the airline navigates its next phase.
The airline has not yet announced a permanent CEO, but Waswani’s interim role is seen as a step toward long-term strategic growth.
