Kenya's ICT Authority has launched an international tender to extend the country's national fiber backbone and improve cross-border connectivity. The initiative is part of the World Bank-backed Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure and economic growth. The Specific Procurement Notice, KE-ICTA-538567-NC-RFB, invites bids for two framework agreements: one for national backbone links and another for cross-border connections.
The tender highlights Kenya's ongoing efforts to modernize its telecommunications infrastructure and support regional digital integration. By expanding the fiber backbone, the government aims to improve internet speeds and reliability across the country. Cross-border connectivity improvements are expected to facilitate trade and collaboration with neighboring nations.
The project underscores Kenya's commitment to becoming a regional digital hub. The ICTA has emphasized the importance of private sector participation in driving innovation and investment in the digital economy. The tender is open to international bidders, reflecting Kenya's strategy to attract global expertise and resources.
The KDEAP project is part of a broader plan to position Kenya as a leader in digital transformation in East Africa. With the fiber network expansion, the country aims to create a more connected and competitive business environment. The tender marks a key step in achieving these goals.
