Sifuna claims political betrayal during Mwananchi campaign
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna accused Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa of turning against him during a Linda Mwananchi campaign tour in Kakamega on August 8, 2026. Sifuna said he had supported Barasa’s bid for governor but was later sidelined, warning that the fallout could influence the 2027 General Election (peopledaily.digital).
Sifuna, who previously served as ODM deputy party leader and Kakamega governor, remains a key political figure in Western Kenya. He emphasized that his one term as senator was sufficient experience to run for president, highlighting his political ambitions during the Mwananchi team’s three-day tour in the region (nation.africa).
Sifuna also sought support from former governor CS Oparanya, who had previously led Kakamega for two terms. Oparanya, still influential in Western Kenya politics, was present during the campaign event, underscoring the ongoing political dynamics in the area (eastleighvoice.co.ke).
