A bus carrying students from the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) crashed on the Awasi–Ahero highway in Nyando, Kisumu County, killing two and injuring dozens, according to local reports. The incident occurred as the students travelled from Mombasa to Kisumu for the funeral of Elvis Otieno, a local resident. The bus was part of a convoy, and the crash happened shortly after the group arrived in Kisumu, where they had received Otieno’s body earlier.
At least two people were confirmed dead, while others were hospitalized with injuries. A total of 14 students have since been discharged from the hospital, while 15 remain under medical care. The crash has raised concerns about road safety in the region, with local authorities expected to investigate the cause.
The bus was carrying students en route to attend the burial of Elvis Otieno, who had recently passed away. The students had safely reached Kisumu before the accident. Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, but the severity of the crash left many injured.
