Opposition MPs in Malaysia have been criticized for failing to protect the interests of over 10 million Tabung Haji (TH) depositors, according to Muda MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. He accused the opposition of boycotting a parliamentary debate on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report into TH, which he claims undermined the trust of millions of depositors. The debate, which was held in Kuala Lumpur, focused on the findings of the RCI, which investigated allegations of mismanagement and corruption within the TH.
Syed Saddiq emphasized that the opposition’s decision to walk out of the session was a betrayal of the public, particularly those who have entrusted their savings to the TH. He called for greater accountability and transparency from all political parties involved. Meanwhile, Utusan Malaysia reported that the TH should not be used as a platform for political maneuvering, highlighting the need for the institution to remain focused on its core mission.
The Barisan Nasional (BN), particularly UMNO, has also been criticized for not protecting individuals found involved in TH mismanagement. This comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the TH’s financial practices and the role of political parties in shaping its governance. The RCI report remains a key point of contention, with calls for further action to ensure the integrity of the TH’s operations.
