Atiku Abubakar, former vice president and presidential candidate, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration over reported killings, calling its record “soaked in blood.” According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the administration is responsible for the deaths of 5,091 Nigerians in violent incidents within three months. This accusation comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku is currently based in the United States, where he is reportedly preparing for the upcoming race. His focus on his own political future has drawn criticism from some analysts, who argue that he should concentrate on domestic issues rather than foreign activities. Meanwhile, political groups such as the G100 have called for unity among candidates, including Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, and Makinde, to challenge Tinubu’s leadership.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has also urged all 19 presidential candidates to disclose their assets and reject vote-buying. This adds to the growing pressure on candidates to ensure transparency ahead of the election. Atiku’s aides have also dismissed allegations from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, claiming they are politically motivated and lack credibility.
