The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals (DPRP) has officially launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO), marking a landmark moment for African business. Valued at approximately $1.6 billion, the offering aims to democratize ownership across the continent by inviting up to 10 million Nigerian investors. The IPO, which opens on September 14, will allow participants to subscribe using the nation’s Bank Verification Number (BVN) system, ensuring a secure and technology-driven process.
Aliko Dangote, the billionaire founder of the Dangote Group, described the IPO as an “IPO for the people,” emphasizing the goal of widespread participation. Shares are priced at N525 each, with a minimum subscription of N5,250. The refinery, already the largest in Africa, is projected to become the world’s largest by 2028. The IPO is not only a capital-raising effort but also a strategic move to fund further expansion and bring more investors into one of Africa’s most ambitious industrial projects.
The offering, which runs until October 13, represents a significant milestone for Nigeria’s financial market. It is expected to set a new benchmark for IPOs in the region, showcasing the growing confidence in African business ventures. The IPO also aligns with Dangote’s vision of fostering economic growth and shared ownership across the continent.
