Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has officially begun its Initial Public Offering (IPO), marking a historic moment in Africa’s financial markets. The offering, valued at N2.2 trillion, aims to attract 10 million shareholders across the continent. The IPO, which will run from September 14 to October 13, is the largest in Africa’s history and is expected to significantly boost the refinery’s expansion plans.
The refinery, owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote, is projected to become the world’s largest by 2028. It currently operates at a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day. The IPO is not only a capital-raising exercise but also a strategic move to bring more investors into one of Africa’s most ambitious industrial projects.
Dangote has emphasized the importance of “ownership for all,” aiming to democratize access to investment opportunities. The shares are being offered at N525 each, with a minimum subscription of N5,250. The IPO is seen as a major milestone for Nigeria and the broader African economy, showcasing the continent’s growing financial maturity.
The offering documents were signed in Lagos, with investment banks playing a key role in the process. This landmark event underscores the increasing confidence in Africa’s ability to support large-scale infrastructure and economic development.
