Davao City is seeking upgrades to its traffic signal system as part of efforts to enhance the efficiency of its public transportation network. The proposal, outlined by the city’s Department of Transportation and Communication (CTTMO), ties the modernization of traffic lights to the ongoing Davao Bus Project. The initiative aims to reduce congestion and improve the reliability of bus services, which are critical for the city’s growing population.
The city also plans to add 150 more field enforcers to monitor and manage traffic more effectively. These officers will be deployed to key areas where traffic bottlenecks frequently occur. The CTTMO emphasized that the upgrades will be implemented in phases, starting with the busiest corridors in the city.
The Davao Bus Project, which has been in progress for several years, has faced delays due to infrastructure challenges and funding constraints. The new traffic signal improvements are expected to complement the project by ensuring smoother movement of buses and other vehicles. Officials have not yet provided a timeline for the full implementation of the upgrades.
