The House prosecution has accused her of betraying public trust by accumulating assets disproportionate to her income. The court will review documents including corporate earnings and property purchases linked to Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio. These will be compared to her sworn statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth, known as SALNs. Former Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, a House prosecution adviser, explained the process in an interview.
The prosecution claims Duterte’s wealth exceeds what can be explained by her legal income. The Senate will assess whether this constitutes a breach of public trust. The trial continues as officials prepare to present further evidence.
