Cincinnati, Ohio — Seventh seed Flavio Cobolli advanced to the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open after a three-set victory over home favorite Tommy Paul. The Italian player, who became only the second Italian to reach the men’s last four in Cincinnati, overcame a slow start to secure the win with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Cobolli credited a tub of M&Ms for giving him fresh energy during the match, particularly after he led 5-2 in the second set.
The win marked Cobolli’s first ATP Masters 1000 semifinal appearance. Meanwhile, Tommy Paul, who had earlier defeated Jessica Pegula in a three-set match, saw his campaign end in the quarterfinals. The Cincinnati Open continued to showcase strong performances from American players, with both Paul and Pegula contributing to the day’s highlights.
The tournament, held in Mason, Ohio, remains a key event on the ATP calendar. Cobolli’s success highlights the competitive nature of the tournament, with players from around the world vying for top honors. The semifinals will determine the next round of contenders for the title.
