A tropical storm and the southwest monsoon have combined to cause at least 43 deaths in the Philippines, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Most of the fatalities were recorded in Benguet due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. The NDRRMC reported the toll on Sunday, highlighting the impact of the weather events on local communities.
The storm system includes cyclones Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and Pilandok, which have caused widespread disruption. Pilandok, known internationally as Krovanh, may re-enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday, according to the state weather bureau. Pagasa reported that the storm was located about 875 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at 3 a.M.
Residents in affected areas have been warned to prepare for further weather changes. The government is monitoring the situation closely, with officials urging caution as the storm system continues to move. The ongoing weather events underscore the vulnerability of the region to natural disasters.
