Metro Manila’s flooding challenges are set to ease with the planned construction of 13 new pumping stations, announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The initiative aims to improve drainage systems in the capital region, which frequently experiences severe flooding during heavy rains. The president stated that most of the stations should be operational by early 2027, with some expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Among the 13 stations, four will be newly built, while the remaining will be upgraded or expanded. The project is part of broader efforts to enhance flood resilience in the densely populated area. Officials have emphasized the importance of these stations in reducing waterlogging and protecting residential and commercial areas from seasonal deluges.

The government has also highlighted the need for improved waste management as part of its flood mitigation strategy. Additional projects, including waste-to-energy initiatives, are expected to be launched in the coming months. These measures aim to address both immediate and long-term challenges related to urban flooding in the region.
