A study conducted at Shandong Provincial Hospital found that 28.9% of patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy developed sinus bradycardia after receiving intravenous methylprednisolone pulse (IVMP) therapy. The research, which followed 166 patients between January 2023 and March 2026, identified five independent risk factors linked to the condition. Researchers noted that the heart rate reductions were significant but often occurred early in the treatment cycle.
The findings highlight the need for close monitoring of patients undergoing IVMP therapy, particularly those with thyroid-related conditions. While the study does not establish causation, it suggests a potential association between the treatment and cardiac effects.
