Former head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac), Andrea Johnson, faced scrutiny at the Madlanga commission over the handling of the Medicare24 investigation. Prosecutor Drushantha Ramsamy raised concerns about the sequence of legal documents used to launch the probe, suggesting discrepancies in how the inquiry was initiated. The commission heard that the Tshwane District Medicare24 contract and Johnson’s conduct were central to the investigation.
The commission also learned that Idac investigated national police commissioner Fannie Masemola without a required Section 27 complaint referral. Johnson is accused of authorizing the probe into Masemola, who was charged with violating the public finance management act.
