Former police officer Gregory Loftus has claimed his son Bevan Loftus was deliberately killed by police during a botched operation in Durban on April 1 2023. Loftus, who worked as a warrant officer, told the Madlanga Commission that the shooting was not a legitimate police action but an intentional act. He alleges the operation was staged to cover up a crime linked to a business rival and drug dealer, Clive Naiker.

Houston, a firearms expert with experience in tactical use and combat, also testified before the commission. He said the accounts given by five police officers involved in the shooting appeared excessive. Houston questioned whether the force used was justified, suggesting the incident did not add up.

The case has sparked controversy, with Loftus describing the operation as a cover-up. He insists his son was targeted, not as a criminal but as a victim of a staged police action. The commission is now examining whether the shooting was a deliberate act or a mistake.

The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the truth behind the alleged murder.
