SHA Imposes 2% Penalty on Late Health Contributions
The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced a 2% penalty on late payments for health contributions by informal workers. The policy, effective from August 1, 2026, aims to ensure timely payment of health insurance premiums. Informal sector workers, including farmers, traders, and boda boda operators, are now subject to financial penalties for delayed contributions.
Under the new rule, any outstanding health contributions will accrue a 2% penalty, which must be settled before healthcare services can be accessed. The SHA has emphasized that access to health care will remain suspended until all arrears and penalties are cleared. This measure is part of broader efforts to improve compliance with health insurance requirements.
