Ukraine’s finance minister, Sergii Marchenko, has warned that the country is facing its most severe budget constraints since the start of the full-scale war in 2022. Speaking exclusively to Euronews, Marchenko highlighted the financial strain caused by the ongoing conflict and the need for urgent international support. The minister also called for the revival of a plan to place Russia’s frozen assets under new custodianship, emphasizing the importance of these funds in stabilizing the nation’s economy.
The financial challenges come as the war continues to place immense pressure on Ukraine’s resources. Despite international efforts to provide aid, the country remains in a precarious economic position. Marchenko stressed that the situation is worsening, with the war’s costs far exceeding the available financial reserves. The proposed custodianship plan aims to ensure that frozen Russian assets are used more effectively to support Ukraine’s recovery and defense.
Meanwhile, the threat of further Russian aggression remains a key concern. Lithuania’s foreign minister has warned that the country would respond swiftly to any attack, signaling a growing sense of urgency among neighboring nations. As the conflict continues, Ukraine’s financial stability remains a critical issue, with the international community under increasing pressure to provide more substantial support.
