Alexander Afenyo-Markin, leader of the opposition Minority Caucus, has accused Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), of insulting lawmakers rather than providing answers regarding a reported GHC22 billion loss linked to the domestic gold-buying programme. The clash follows claims that the loss was tied to the DGPP, prompting calls for transparency.

GOLDBOD CEO Sammy Gyamfi has responded by challenging Afenyo-Markin to clarify who is responsible for the alleged US$1.7 billion loss under the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 Domestic Gold Purchase Programme. Gyamfi denies responsibility, asserting that the loss was not due to GoldBod’s actions.

The controversy has reignited discussions around the role of the Ghana Gold Board in managing the country’s gold reserves. Proponents of transparency argue that public accountability is essential, while officials emphasize the complexity of financial reporting.

The dispute highlights growing tensions between the opposition and government over economic management, with both sides accusing each other of lacking clarity and accountability.
