The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has initiated a public consultation on revised banking guidelines aimed at improving risk management and operational standards within the country’s financial sector. The guidelines, announced in a notice dated September 10, 2026, invite input from the public and stakeholders to shape the new rules.
The proposed changes focus on enhancing transparency and accountability in financial institutions. The CBK emphasized the need for stronger oversight to ensure stability and protect consumers. The consultation period is open until October 15, 2026, allowing a wide range of participants to contribute.
The updated guidelines are expected to address emerging challenges in the financial landscape, including digital banking and cybersecurity. The CBK has also highlighted the importance of aligning with international financial standards.
The public feedback will be reviewed before finalizing the guidelines, which are anticipated to take effect early in 2027. The move reflects the CBK’s ongoing efforts to modernize and regulate the financial sector effectively.
