A new wave of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus is worsening the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with children facing a significantly higher risk of death, according to Médecins Sans Frontières. The organization warns that the outbreak has exposed a major gap in treatment access, urging urgent research and intervention.

The situation remains dire as the virus continues to spread, with reports indicating that the real number of cases could be as high as 10,000. While neighboring Uganda and European countries like France have declared themselves free of the virus after periods of monitoring, the Democratic Republic of the Congo still struggles with containment efforts.

Health workers and local authorities are under immense pressure to respond to the growing number of infections. The lack of adequate medical resources and infrastructure has made it difficult to provide timely care, particularly for children who are more vulnerable to the virus.

MSF emphasizes that without immediate action, the mortality rate among children could rise further. The organization is calling for increased funding, better access to treatment, and faster development of targeted therapies to combat the outbreak.
