Malaysian PM Orders Forensic Audit of Tabung Haji Amid 1MDB Land Purchase Claims
KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has ordered a forensic audit of Tabung Haji (TH), following claims that the state-run fund’s CEO was part of a 1MDB-linked land purchase at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX). The directive comes after reports surfaced about the role of TH’s former CEO during the acquisition of land for TRX, which was managed by 1MDB, the now-defunct national development corporation implicated in a major corruption scandal.
According to sources, the CEO of TH at the time of the TRX land purchase was also a member of 1MDB’s board. This connection has raised questions about potential conflicts of interest and transparency in the transaction. The forensic audit aims to investigate any irregularities or mismanagement in the process, as part of ongoing efforts to address corruption allegations linked to 1MDB.
The Malaysian government has been under pressure to resolve the legacy of 1MDB, which was implicated in a $4.5 billion embezzlement case. The audit of TH is seen as a step toward greater accountability in state-owned institutions.
