Abuja faces worsening flooding as officials link the crisis to construction on green areas and drainage channels. Senator Funmi Ogundare, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), criticized the practice, stating it has worsened flood conditions. The issue has sparked debate over urban planning and infrastructure management.
Minister Nyesom Wike has taken action, ordering the demolition of houses built on drainage channels. He emphasized the need to clear these areas to prevent further flooding. Wike also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, including two major road projects set for completion by December.
Separately, Wike ruled out an opposition victory, asserting that only President Tinubu can win state elections. He praised Tinubu’s role in ensuring free and fair elections, such as the recent Osun State governorship contest. Meanwhile, local residents have raised concerns about unhygienic conditions at the Anagada slaughterhouse, adding to the challenges in the FCT.
The situation underscores growing tensions between development and environmental concerns in the capital.
