A Nigerian business group has requested the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate an alleged $300 million investment claim tied to a disputed real estate project in Abuja. The request comes from the Nigerian faction of JonahCapital Nigeria Limited, led by Dr Adeniran Ogunmuyiwa, the company’s founder and director. The faction disputes claims made by Samuel Jonah, who leads the Ghanaian branch of the firm, regarding a large investment in the River Park Estate.
The dispute has sparked legal and political debates over the EFCC’s authority to freeze assets linked to the case. JonahCapital Nigeria Limited has distanced itself from an arbitration proceeding involving the Nigerian government, raising questions about the company’s involvement and the legitimacy of the claims.
The EFCC is now under pressure to clarify its role in the matter, as the controversy highlights tensions between different factions of the company and the broader implications for financial crime investigations in Nigeria. The outcome could set a precedent for how such disputes are handled in the future.
