Nyesom Wike, Federal Capital Territory Minister, has clarified that his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 is not aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a recent statement, Wike emphasized that his backing is part of a “rainbow coalition” and does not extend to other APC candidates. This comes after APC governors, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, warned against alliances that could undermine Tinubu’s re-election.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defended Wike’s decision, stating it is a constitutional right. PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed noted that Wike’s support for Tinubu does not mean he is abandoning his PDP membership. Wike also reiterated that he never promised the PDP would not field candidates for upcoming elections, highlighting the party’s continued role in the political landscape.
