Three days before the first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced the historic polls will mark a new chapter in the region’s political landscape. The elections, set to take place in the coming weeks, will be the first of their kind, allowing residents of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to elect their own representatives. This milestone follows years of peace talks and the signing of the 2014 Bangsamoro Organic Law, which established the region’s autonomy. The BPE will feature a mix of local and national candidates, with voters casting ballots for both legislative and executive positions. The event is seen as a key step toward greater self-governance for the region, reflecting the growing political maturity of its people. Comelec has already begun preparations, including voter registration and campaign monitoring, to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
