Davao City has been selected to lead a nighttime earthquake drill as part of the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) scheduled for September 10, 2026. The drill will take place in selected commercial areas along J.P. Laurel Avenue, Bajada. Officials hope the exercise will improve public awareness and preparedness for seismic events in urban settings.
The decision to conduct the drill at night aims to simulate real-life conditions where people are more likely to be in public spaces. Local authorities will coordinate with businesses and residents to ensure participation and safety. The NSED is a national initiative designed to test emergency response systems and educate the public on disaster preparedness.
This drill marks the first time a nighttime exercise will be conducted in the city. It follows previous drills held during the day, which have focused on schools and residential areas. The 2026 event will include coordination with local emergency services and may involve public demonstrations of safety procedures.
