The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has confirmed it will support those affected by the shooting incident at a school in Zamboanga City. The DSWD is working with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) administration and other partners to provide assistance.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited the scene on Wednesday to check on the injured students. He emphasized the need to stop sharing details of the incident to protect the privacy of those involved. The shooting occurred on August 18 at the ADZU Junior High School campus.
The DSWD has also reported an increase in the number of families displaced due to flooding in the Calabarzon region. Heavy rains from the habagat monsoon have caused ongoing flooding, forcing more families to seek temporary shelter.
While the focus remains on the Zamboanga incident, the DSWD continues to monitor and respond to multiple humanitarian needs across the country.
