The Philippines reported its lowest poverty rate in recorded history at 9.7 percent in 2025, surpassing the 10-percent threshold three years earlier than planned. The data, released by the National Statistics Office, shows a significant improvement from previous years.
The decline in poverty is attributed to government initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth and improving social services. Key programs such as the Pantawid Pamilya Sagip (Conditional Cash Transfer) and investments in infrastructure have played a role in reducing extreme poverty.
The country’s economic resilience has also been supported by strong performance in key sectors like agriculture and manufacturing. Despite global economic challenges, the Philippines has maintained steady growth.
The poverty rate reduction marks a major milestone in the nation’s development goals. Officials remain optimistic about further progress in the coming years.
