Cali, Colombia – Rescue teams in Colombia are racing against time to locate survivors after a powerful earthquake killed at least 265 people. The disaster, which struck the western valleys and coffee-growing region, has left hundreds missing, with officials warning that the 72-hour window for finding survivors is rapidly closing.
Colombian authorities have confirmed the death toll has risen to 265, with search operations continuing in the affected areas. Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that less than a day remains in the critical search period. The earthquake, which occurred on Monday, has caused widespread damage, with many buildings collapsing and trapping residents.
The government has called for continued support as the search for survivors intensifies. Meanwhile, the new Colombian president, Abelardo de la Espriella, has also sought U.S. Military collaboration to combat drug-related violence, highlighting the country’s ongoing security challenges.
