Pakistan is set to launch its first commercial bonded oil storage system, allowing Gulf producers and global traders to store petroleum products in the country for export while granting Islamabad emergency access to some stocks, according to a senior petroleum official. The initiative aims to enhance fuel security and strengthen economic ties with Gulf nations.

The plan comes as Pakistan continues to deepen its regional partnerships, including efforts to reassure Iran that recent defense agreements with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye do not pose a threat. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently spoke with his Iranian counterpart, emphasizing that the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement is not a tool of confrontation.

Separately, a maritime incident involving a container ship and military forces in the Gulf of Oman was reported by the UK Maritime Trade Organisation. While details remain unclear, the event highlights ongoing tensions in the region.

The bonded storage initiative underscores Pakistan’s strategic focus on energy security and regional diplomacy, aligning with broader efforts to stabilize its economic and political landscape.
