Pakistan and Türkiye have announced plans to revive energy cooperation, with Pakistan expecting $5 billion in refinery upgrade deals to begin in September, according to Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik. The minister stated this during a recent address in Islamabad, highlighting the country’s efforts to modernize its aging oil infrastructure. This development comes as Pakistan prepares to resume offshore energy exploration with Türkiye after a nearly two-decade pause.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan clarified that a newly signed trilateral defence agreement involving Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is defensive in nature and not aimed at Iran. In an interview with Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency, Fidan emphasized that the agreement is designed to protect signatories from external threats without targeting any specific country. He noted that Iran is not included in the agreement’s focus.
The renewed energy partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye marks a significant step in bilateral relations, with both nations seeking to strengthen economic and strategic ties. The defence agreement further underscores the growing regional cooperation among key players in the Middle East and South Asia.
