Syria is set to enhance its digital financial infrastructure with a new $100 million grant from the World Bank, according to officials. The funding, approved by the World Bank’s board of executive directors, will support the country’s efforts to build a more resilient and transparent financial system. Syrian Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh emphasized that the grant is non-repayable and does not impose a financial burden on the national treasury. He also highlighted Syria’s commitment to transparent governance, which has earned international trust. The funds will be used to strengthen digital financial services and improve financial inclusion, particularly in underserved regions. This marks a significant step in Syria’s economic recovery, though the country continues to face challenges due to years of conflict and sanctions. The World Bank’s support comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the Syrian economy and restore confidence in its financial institutions. (arabnews.pk)
