MANILA – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has come under scrutiny after documents revealed at least 23 unusual names linked to confidential fund expenditures in 2023. Some of the names appeared to resemble those of public figures, while others referenced food items. Commission on Audit (COA) auditor Xylene Mae Del Campo confirmed these findings during testimony.

The OVP’s use of confidential funds has been questioned, particularly regarding their intended purpose. Del Campo noted that while she testified before the Senate impeachment court that the funds were meant to ensure Vice President Sara Duterte’s safety, the supporting documents were deemed insufficient.

The lack of clear evidence has raised concerns about the transparency of the OVP’s financial activities. The mysterious names and the lack of proper documentation have fueled speculation about the funds’ true use.

The situation highlights ongoing challenges in tracking the use of confidential funds, prompting calls for greater accountability.
