Congress in Manila is considering amendments to two key legislative proposals: one related to flood control funding and another concerning firearms regulation. Representative Brian Yamsuan of Parañaque City stated that the House is open to adjusting the P107 billion allocated for flood control projects under the 2027 National Expenditure Program, provided the changes are necessary and thoroughly debated. The funds aim to enhance infrastructure against rising flood risks in the country.

Meanwhile, Secretary Jonvic Remulla of the Department of the Interior and Local Government has urged Congress to revise the “Robin Padilla Law,” which currently allows possession of unregistered firearms as a bailable offense. Remulla argues that the law has contributed to an increase in criminal activities. The proposed amendment would make such possession a non-bailable offense, aiming to reduce illegal gun ownership and associated violence.

Both proposals reflect ongoing efforts to address pressing national issues. The flood control funding seeks to mitigate disaster risks, while the firearms law aims to improve public safety. The legislative process will determine how these changes will shape policy in the coming months.
