Drushanta Ramsamy, former head of the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), testified before the Madlanga Commission that Andrea Johnson, former IDAC boss, deliberately withheld information about investigations from police minister Bheki Masemola to set him up to lie in Parliament. Ramsamy claimed Johnson instructed investigators not to inform Masemola about several probes before his appearance before the Portfolio Committee on Police.

The testimony suggests Johnson may have manipulated the investigative process to create a scenario where Masemola would be placed in a position to appear dishonest. Ramsamy also revealed that Johnson held regular meetings with suspended police minister Senzo Mchunu while the directorate was investigating Crime Intelligence officers, indicating a possible close relationship between the two.

These revelations add to growing concerns about potential misconduct within the IDAC and its interactions with senior police officials. The Madlanga Commission is examining allegations of corruption and mismanagement within the police force, with further testimony expected in the coming weeks.
