President William Ruto has inaugurated the construction of a new police training facility at the National Police College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County. The event took place ahead of the passing-out parade for over 6,000 police recruits, scheduled for August 29.
Ruto will also preside over the parade, during which he will unveil new uniforms for the recruits, replacing the traditional navy-blue design. The facility is expected to provide better resources and infrastructure for training officers in modern policing techniques.
The timing of the event coincides with Kenya’s 16th anniversary of its constitution, which was formally recognized through a presidential proclamation on August 25, 2025. While the constitution’s anniversary is a separate milestone, the police reforms reflect ongoing government priorities in governance and security.
The new training grounds aim to support the country’s long-term goals of strengthening public safety and institutional capacity. The government has emphasized the need for updated facilities to meet contemporary challenges faced by law enforcement.
