Students across Ireland received their Leaving Certificate results today, with over 95,000 applications submitted to the CAO system for college placements. Despite a decline in average grades compared to pandemic peaks, competition for university spots remains intense.
In Donegal, more than 2,300 students completed the Leaving Certificate, with an additional 253 finishing the Leaving Certificate Applied programme. Results were available online from 10am, allowing families to access outcomes promptly.
The State Examinations Commission reported continued high demand for higher education, with Round One college offers expected soon. With fewer students achieving top grades, the pressure on applicants to secure places has not eased.
The CAO system will now process applications, determining which students gain entry to their preferred institutions. As results are finalized, the focus shifts to the next phase of academic and career planning for graduates.
